Description: Elegant, savory tartlets that combine the richness of ground beef with the buttery goodness of puff pastry. A bite-sized twist on the classic Beef Wellington.

Prep Time: 30 minutes Cook Time: 20 minutes Inactive Time: 10 minutes Total Time: 1 hour Servings: 12 tartlets Author: Ashton A.K.A. JustLikeGranny

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 package (2 sheets) puff pastry, thawed

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped

  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, finely chopped

  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Sauté onions, garlic, and mushrooms until softened and fragrant.

3. Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart as it cooks. Season with thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Cook until beef is browned. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.

4. Roll out thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Using a round cutter or a glass, cut out circles to fit into a muffin tin.

5. Press each pastry circle into the cavities of a muffin tin.

6. Fill each pastry with the beef mixture, pressing down slightly to ensure they are filled evenly.

7. In a small bowl, beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water to make an egg wash. Brush the tops of the tartlets with the egg wash.

8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 18-20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.

9. Allow tartlets to cool in the muffin tin for 10 minutes before transferring to a serving plate.

Notes to make it better:

  • For an added depth of flavor, consider adding a small dash of Worcestershire sauce or Dijon mustard to the beef mixture.

  • Using a high-quality, butter-based puff pastry will enhance the flavor and texture of the tartlets.

  • Garnish with fresh parsley or chives for a touch of color and freshness before serving.
