Christmas Sugar Cookies with Colored Sugar

Ingredients:
• 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 1 1/2 cups white sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• Colored sugar (red, green, gold, etc.) for decorating
Instructions:
1. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least one hour (or overnight) in the refrigerator.
4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
5. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and roll in colored sugar. Place on lined cookie sheets about 1 1/2 inches apart.
6. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
