Description: Savor the decadent, gooey goodness of deep-fried Baby Bel Cheese smothered in a rich, tangy marinara sauce. This delectable appetizer will make your taste buds dance, and it’s perfect for gatherings or even just a special treat for yourself.

Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 10 minutes Inactive Time: 5 minutes (for the cheese to cool down) Servings: 4 people

Ingredients:

For the Cheese:

• 8 Baby Bel Cheeses, unwrapped

• 1 cup flour

• 2 large eggs, beaten

• 2 cups Panko breadcrumbs

• Salt and pepper to taste

• Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Marinara Sauce:

• 1 tablespoon olive oil

• 1 small onion, finely chopped

• 2 cloves garlic, minced

• 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

• 1 teaspoon dried basil

• 1 teaspoon dried oregano

• Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. In a deep pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F.

2. While the oil is heating, season the flour with salt and pepper. Dredge each Baby Bel cheese in flour, then dip into the beaten egg, and finally coat thoroughly with Panko breadcrumbs.

3. Carefully lower the breaded cheeses into the hot oil, working in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.

4. Using a slotted spoon, remove the cheeses from the oil and drain on paper towels. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

5. While the cheese is cooling, heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, cooking until softened.

6. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, basil, and oregano. Season with salt and pepper.

7. Simmer the sauce for 10-15 minutes, or until slightly thickened.

8. Serve the fried cheese hot, with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes:

• For a crispier coating, you can double-dip the cheese: after the initial coating of flour, egg, and breadcrumbs, dip again in egg and breadcrumbs.

• The marinara sauce can be made ahead and reheated just before serving.

• Add a pinch of chili flakes to the marinara sauce for an extra kick.
