Cranberry Sauce from Dried Cranberries

Description: This delightful cranberry sauce recipe offers a twist on the traditional, utilizing dried cranberries to create a luscious, deeply flavored accompaniment perfect for holiday feasts or as a gourmet addition to everyday meals.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Inactive Time: 2 hours

Servings: 8

Ingredients:

• 1 cup dried cranberries

• 3 cups water

• 1 cup granulated sugar

• 1 cinnamon stick

• Zest of 1 orange

• 2 tablespoons orange juice

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

• A pinch of salt

Instructions:

1. In a medium saucepan, combine the dried cranberries and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes or until the cranberries are plump and rehydrated.

2. Add sugar, cinnamon stick, orange zest, orange juice, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir well.

3. Continue to simmer the mixture on low heat for another 10 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.

4. Remove from heat and discard the cinnamon stick. Allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes, then transfer it to a bowl. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to let the flavors meld.

Notes to Make it Better:

• For a smoother sauce, blend the mixture after cooking and strain through a sieve.

• Adjust sugar to taste, especially if you prefer a tarter or sweeter sauce.

• Adding a splash of port or brandy can introduce a richer, more complex flavor.

• If the sauce is too thick after cooling, stir in a little warm water to reach the desired consistency.
