Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 0 minutes Inactive Time: 2 hours (for chilling) Servings: 16
Ingredients:
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup buttermilk or natural Filmjolk
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp dried parsley
A pinch of dried thyme
A pinch of citric acid
1 tsp msg
1/4 tsp xanthan gum (to thicken)
Instructions:
1. Place all the ingredients into your blender.
2. Blend on medium speed for 1-2 minutes until all ingredients are mixed thoroughly, and the dressing is smooth and creamy.
3. Transfer the dressing to an airtight container.
4. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. This allows all the flavors to meld together and the dressing to thicken.
Notes:
If you prefer a thicker consistency, you can add an additional 1/8 tsp of xanthan gum.
Using fresh herbs can bring an added depth of flavor. If using fresh, you’ll want to triple the amount.
The MSG is optional, but it brings that extra tang and umami flavor that the original Hidden Valley recipe is known for.
