2 Ingredient Bagels Recipe

Making bagels at home can seem like a daunting task, but with this easy 2 ingredient bagel recipe, you can have fresh, delicious bagels in no time! With only two simple ingredients, self-rising flour and Greek or Turkish yogurt, you'll have soft and chewy bagels that are perfect for breakfast or a snack.

To start, mix together the self-rising flour and yogurt in a bowl until a dough ball forms. Kneading the dough takes some effort, but it's worth it! Once you have your dough ball, use a pastry knife to cut it into 6-8 pieces. Roll each piece into a circle, then push your thumb through the center to form a donut shape. Boiling the bagels in hot water before baking helps give them that classic chewy texture.

After boiling, place the bagels on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and brush with a whisked egg for a nice, golden crust. Then, sprinkle with your desired toppings - try poppy seeds, everything but the bagel seasoning, or any other bagel seasonings you like. Bake for 20-25 minutes, keeping an eye on them to avoid burning.

Once the bagels are finished baking, let them cool completely on a wire rack. This will help prevent a doughy center and allow the bagels to cook all the way through. When cooled, slice and serve with your favorite toppings. Whether you're a fan of classic plain bagels or like to add some extra flavor, these 2 ingredient bagels are sure to be a hit! So why not give them a try and enjoy the taste of fresh, homemade bagels today!

Ingredients

Dough
  • 2 cups self-rising flour (if you don’t have self-rising flour, use my recipe to make it.)
  • 1 cup greek or turkish yogurt
Toppings:
  • 1 egg, whisked (for a nice brown glaze)
  • poppy seeds
  • everything but the bagel seasoning
  • any other bagel seasonings you’d like

Instructions

  1. In a bowl add your flour and yogurt.
  2. Preheat your oven to 425F.
  3. Put a pot of water on the stove to boil.
  4. Start kneading the dough. It should turn into a dough ball if you keep working with it. This takes anywhere from 15-20 minutes by hand. Much quicker in a mixer or food processor.
  5. Once your dough ball has formed. Use a pastry knife to cut it into 6-8 equal pieces of dough.
  6. Roll each one into a nice little circle.
  7. Push your thumb through the middle like you’re making a dough “ring” and work the dough around until it resembles stretched out looking donuts or onion rings.
  8. Once you’ve made all of your bagels place them into the hot boiling water.
  9. Boil on each side for 2-5 minutes until puffed up. This will ensure the dough is chewy. If you don’t want a chewy bagel then skip this step all together.
  10. Once all have done boiling, place them on a parchment paper lined cooking sheet.
  11. Whisk your egg together and brush it on top to make a nice crust.
  12. Sprinkle with your desired toppings, I did poppy seeds.
  13. Place into the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  14. Watch the bagels and make sure they don’t burn. If they look like they’re burning, remove them from the oven and turn the temperature down to 375F. Once the oven has regulated, put them back in and continue to bake.
  15. When done set them to the side on a wire rack to cool.
  16. You want them to cool completely before slicing them. If you don’t they won’t continue to “cook” on the inside and will give you a “doughy” center.
  17. When cooled, slice and serve with any toppings you like for bagels.
  18. Enjoy!
