Oven-Baked Chicken Cordon Bleu with Creamy Dijon Sauce Recipe

If y'all are looking for a delicious and easy recipe for chicken cordon bleu, look no further! This oven baked version is sure to satisfy your cravings and have you coming back for seconds.

First things first, let's talk about what exactly chicken cordon bleu is. It's a classic dish that originated in Switzerland, consisting of chicken breast stuffed with ham and cheese, then breaded and fried. While the traditional version is delicious, this oven baked version is a bit healthier and just as tasty.

To make this dish, you'll need some chicken breasts, deli ham, and your favorite cheese. I like to use swiss, but you can really use any type you prefer. You'll also need some breadcrumbs, egg, and a bit of butter or oil. For the creamy Dijon sauce, you'll need some Dijon mustard, chicken broth, and heavy cream.

To start, preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Then, pound your chicken breasts to an even thickness. Lay a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on top of each chicken breast, then roll them up and secure with toothpicks. Dip the rolled chicken in the egg, then coat in breadcrumbs. Place the coated chicken in a baking dish and drizzle with a bit of butter or oil. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.

While the chicken is baking, it's time to make the creamy Dijon sauce. In a small saucepan, whisk together the Dijon mustard, chicken broth, and sour cream. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for a few minutes until it thickens up a bit.

When the chicken is done, remove it from the oven and serve it up with the creamy Dijon sauce on top. Trust me, the combination of the crispy breaded chicken, savory ham and cheese, and tangy Dijon sauce is pure heaven.

This recipe is perfect for a weeknight dinner or a fancy date night in. It's easy to make and the results are always impressive. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Chicken Cordon Bleu
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Lay a chicken breast on a cutting board and place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on top. Roll the chicken breast up tightly and secure with toothpicks. Repeat with the remaining chicken breasts.
  3. In a shallow dish, season the flour with salt and pepper. In a separate shallow dish, beat the eggs. In a third shallow dish, mix the breadcrumbs with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Dredge each chicken roll in the flour, then dip it in the eggs, and coat with the breadcrumbs.
  5. Place the breaded chicken rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake the chicken rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until they are cooked through and the cheese is melted.
  7. Serve the Chicken Cordon Bleu hot, with your choice of sides and sauces. Enjoy!
Dijon Cream Sauce
  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the flour and whisk together until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.
  3. Slowly pour in the chicken broth, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer until the sauce has thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the sour cream and Dijon mustard. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. erve the sauce over the Chicken Cordon Bleu.
  7. This sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator until ready to use. Simply reheat in a saucepan over medium heat until warmed through. You can also adjust the thickness of the sauce by adding more or less flour or broth, depending on your preference. Enjoy!
